Industry Icon George Flach Passes Away
Richardson, Texas—Former IAEI International President George Flach passed away in August 2009. He faithfully served the electrically industry in a variety of roles, and was known as an industry icon.
George was chief electrical inspector for the city of New Orleans, a long time member and past chair of code-making panel 15, a contributor to IAEI News, and as general chairman for IAEI’s 50th Anniversary Meeting held in New Orleans in 1978. In 2006, George received the inaugural plaque from the Southern Section of IAEI for his dedicated lifetime service to the Southern Section. This plaque now bears his name, “George Flach Lifetime Service Award,” when it is awarded to other recipients.
He was a member of the Institute of Electronic & Electrical Engineers and past president of the Eastern Section of National Fire Protection Association. He was a registered professional engineer in the state of Louisiana and a certified electrical safety engineer.
Since his retirement from the city of New Orleans, George served the electrical industry as a consultant, as a perennial code panelist at many IAEI and other electrical meetings, and as a member of several NEC code-making panels. He also wrote articles for many electrical publications, among which are IAEI News and Electrical Contractor magazines, and he was a regular columnist for many product applications. He was also a Gold Roadrunner for the IAEI and an NEC Quarter Century Club member.
Our sympathy goes out to George Flach’s family and friends.
