Question: Listed LED Lighting Product Categories

Light emitting diode (LED) lights seem to be quickly replacing incandescent lighting as well as neon in signs. Does UL have special product categories for these types of LED lights? If so, what categories should we be looking for and where are they in the White Book?

Yes, UL is keeping pace with the changes in LED lighting technology and has developed many product categories to address the many types of LED luminaires and accessories. Here is a list of those product categories and where they can be located in the 2008 White Book or online as of January 1, 2009. The categories that presently can only be viewed online will also be added to the 2009 White Book, except for LED Nightlights, (QOWC). Those that can only be viewed online as well as the categories that appear in the White Book can be viewed online enter the Category Code at the Category Code search prompt.

For signs that incorporate LED technology, there is not a separate category for these products; they are covered under the Sign (UXYT) category.
