The Electrical Code Coalition, of which the International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI) is a member, has issued a series of new proclamations in conjunction with Electrical Safety Month. Signed by the heads of each of the Coalition’s nine member organizations, the statements assert those organizations’ longtime commitment to supporting electrical inspection and certified inspectors.

The International Code Council today announced that Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley signed into law legislation passed by the state’s General Assembly adopting the International Green Construction Code (IGCC) as an optional requirement for new construction.
“Support AFCI Safety” was created to educate homeowners, electrical contractors, home builders, state code adoption panels and others about the fire-prevention and potentially life-saving benefits of installing arc fault circuit interrupters (AFCIs) during new home construction. AFCI’s are a nationally recognized home electrical safety device designed to prevent electrical fires from destroying the home.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration today announced that it will not abandon its system for ensuring that electrical products used in the workplace are safe.
The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) announced that it will continue to require third-party certification via the Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) program for electrical products used in American workplaces and refrain from adopting Supplier’s Declaration of Conformity (SDoC).
