Position Summary:
R. W. Beck is under a specific contract with NASA to provide construction surveillance and inspection services where a construction management field office has be established at the George C. Marshall Space Flight Center near Huntsville, Alabama. A total of about 15 personnel staff this field office with various experiences and qualifications. The overall project scope involves providing construction management and inspection services to the National Aeronautical and Space Administration. The currently available position is specifically for an Electrical Construction Management Inspector with the following responsibilities and requirements.
Position Responsibilities:
- Act safely at all times and report immediately any unsafe acts/conditions and incidents
- Observe construction activities for compliance with OSHA 1926 standard
- Monitor, administer, and report on construction projects as assigned
- Perform quality assurance inspections for compliance with drawings and specs
- Track construction management documents (submittals, RFIs, change orders, etc.)
- Provide technical assistance and value engineering relative to electrical systems
- Coordinate and hold weekly project meetings
- Review and comment on project schedules and construction plans
- Perform constructability reviews and participate in design review meetings
- Professionally communicate with designers, managers, and contractors
- Follow procedures in the Construction Management Inspection Handbook
- Adhere to company policy, employee handbook, and safety manual
- Utilize Primavera Expedition software to document and track construction projects
- Enter daily construction activities, manpower, and major materials for each project
- Initially extract from the specifications and enter submittal requirements
- Enter, track, and transmit construction documents as required
- Enter and process contractor pay applications for NASA payment
- Generate weekly and monthly project reports plus on-demand reports
- Enter and track safety issues
Experience Required:
- Ten years of electrical experience relative to commercial and institutional type of construction both new and rehabilitation
- Knowledgeable of electrical industry standards (NEC, IEEE, NEMA, IEC, NETA, etc.)
- Knowledgeable of OSHA 1910 and 1926 standards
- Team oriented with very good communication skills
- Professional telephone and radio presence
- Basic computer knowledge and able to use Windows XP or Vista operating system
- Willing and able to work non-duty hours as required; duty hours 7am – 3:30pm
Position Preferences:
- Electrical Engineering degree, as in BSEE, from an accredited institution
- Knowledge of other disciplines than electrical construction
- Knowledge of total building commissioning and LEED certification
- Knowledge of Primavera scheduling and Expedition software
