Electrical Codes
The codes and standards currently adopted and enforced by the Alabama Building Commission as the State Building Code are:

  • 2002 National Electrical Code;
  • 2003 International Building Code;
  • 2003 International Plumbing Code;
  • 2003 International Fuel Gas Code;
  • 2003 International Mechanical Code;
  • 2003 International Fire Prevention Code;
  • 1994 Alabama Building Energy Conservation Code

Licensing: Electrical Inspectors/Services
The state does not license inspectors and does not require that they be certified. A few individual personnel systems require that inspectors be certified, but not many.

Licensing: Contractors
The Electrical Contractors Board licenses journeyman and contractors. The State Electrical Contractors certification is actually a voluntary certification, not a required certification.

Journeyman    
Requirements: 4 years experience
     
Fees: License fee: $35
  Exam fee: $115
     
Renewal: Annually; Renewal fee: $35
 
Contractor    
Requirements: 4 years experience in supervisory position - industrial and commercial
     
Fees: License fee: $200
  Exam fee: $165
   
Renewal: Annually; Renewal fee: $200

 

CE Requirements
There are no CEU requirements at this time.
