Electrical Codes
The National Fire Protection Association National Electrical Code/1996 as amended by the D.C. Electrical Code Supplement 2002 shall constitute the D.C. Electrical Code/ 2002, hereinafter referred to as the “Electrical Code”.
Licensing: Electrical Inspectors/Services & Licensing: Contractors
The Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs issues licenses to operate and issues permits to install electrical systems including all low-voltage systems. Plans must be submittted for review and approval prior to permit issuance. Engineered stamp drawings are needed for submittal drawings. Plans and material submitted for fire alarm and sprinkler systems must be separately submitted to the DCRA for review and approval.

Licensing requirements:
Licenses are requried for the categories of apprentice, specialty, journeyman, and master electrician.
An electrical contractor must either be a master electrician or employ a master electrician.

$2000 for Designated Master Electrician
$1000 for Designated Master Electrician Specialist
