Licensing: Electrical Inspectors/Services
The State of Iowa Legislature has passed HF 897. The governor of Iowa is expected to sign HF 897 into law. HF 897 is an act establishing statewide licensure and certification of electricians, installers, and inspectors, providing for inspections, establishing fees, and providing penalties. The licensee shall be required to complete eighteen contact hours of continuing education courses approved by the board during the three-year period for which a license is granted.
HF 897 also will require any existing municipality with a current electrical inspection program with amendments to the National Electrical Code to be filed with the board prior to enforcement by the political subdivision, and shall not be less stringent than the minimum standards established by the board.
The requirements of HF 897 for the licensing of electricians will be effective January 1, 2008, and for the certification of electrical inspectors January 1, 2009.
