Pass an exam. As a prerequisite to taking the Department of Commerce exam, the applicant shall provide proof of
(a) at least 1,000 hours per year for at least 6 years of experience in electrical work; can substitute 3 years full-time schooling for experience, or
(b) at least 1,000 hours per year for at least 3 years of experience in electrical work and a degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university, or
(c) at least 1,000 hours per year for at least 3 years of experience in electrical work and is a professional engineer, architect, or designer of electrical systems.
If you are a master electrician, or hold electrical inspector or commercial electrical inspector certification issued by the International Code Council, or hold a Certified Electrical Inspector-Master certification issued under the International Association of Electrical Inspectors/National Fire Protection Association, you can get the Commercial Electrical Inspector license without taking an exam. |
