Rhode Island Continuing Education Requirements and NEC Adoption

Quick Fact: Rhode Island Building Codes are amendments of the International Building Codes, which are used as the model. The adopted NEC is for mandatory application by governmental bodies that exercise legal jurisdictions over electrical installations and for use by insurance inspectors. Current legislation is ongoing to automatically adopt the NEC in the year of its publication. (Send us an update):
License Renewal & CEU Requirements
Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training
Class A and Class B Electricians
HOURS REQUIRED: 15
RENEWAL CYCLE: Biennial
RENEWAL DATE: Birth date
Units of time — Contact Hours. The continuing education credits shall be included in the currently adopted edition of the National Electrical Code and the International Code Council (ICC) national codes. Instructors or inspectors shall be Rhode Island licensed electrical contractors employed by or about to be employed by the providers and be board approved.
